Wooden Flooring Care Guide

Wooden flooring is a durable and stylish choice for any space, but it does require regular care to keep it looking its best. By following these maintenance tips, you can extend the life and appearance of your wood floors.

1. Regular Cleaning

  • Dusting & Sweeping: Dust, dirt, and grit can act like sandpaper on wooden floors. Sweep or dust with a soft broom or microfiber mop daily to prevent scratching.
  • Vacuuming: Use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment or one designed for hardwood floors. Avoid vacuums with beater bars, as they can scratch the surface.
  • Mopping: Clean with a damp (not wet) mop, as excessive water can cause warping. Use a mild wood floor cleaner or a manufacturer-recommended product. Never use harsh chemicals or abrasives.

2. Protection from Moisture

  • Spill Management: Wipe up spills immediately to prevent staining and moisture damage. Water and wood don’t mix well, so minimizing moisture exposure is crucial.
  • Humidity Control: Wood expands in high humidity and contracts in low humidity. Keep indoor humidity levels between 35-55% to prevent warping or cracking. Consider using a humidifier in winter and a dehumidifier in summer.
